Dominica Island invites us for exploration! Valley of Desolation and surrounding - here we explore permeability changes associated with hydrothermal alteration processes. Can we solve the Boiling Lake puzzle?
A milestone in our research is to approach hazardeous sites and implement the lessons learned. This we now start at Indonesian sites, where aggressive fluids change rock samples under semi-controlled conditions. Data at Tangkuban Perahu, Galunggung and other sites visited are pushing our understanding forwards!
Field works creates data, rock samples, which produces more data. Our samples from Mombacho have arrived and go through the processing workflow of petrophysics (Strassbourg team), mineralogy and geochemistry (Uppsala team) and hyperspectral imaging (Potsdam team).
The award goes to .... drumbeat .... Claire! Congrats!
We put our heads together and discussed the results on alteration. Huge success at the first education sites. Thanks for the Uppsala team for hosting us.
Hydrothermal alteration triggering collapse hazards? Mombacho is a study site where these types of alteration consequences intensified recently. We collected samples. And a lot of data.
What a week! RnR team members could teach and study alterations on Tenerife. We used hammers, drones, hyperspectral sensors and all our synergy to take best data possible. Stay tuned for results !
The RnR teams travel to the beautiful island of Tenerife for exchange on data, methods, and research.
RnR team members engage in promoting alteration and instability sessions at EGU, IAVCEI, DGGV and other conferences.
The RnR principal investigators met in Dublin to discuss positions, announcements, hiring strategy and the first joint field trip.
During our June 2024 general assembly in Dublin we had the chance to visit the campus of UCD and enjoy the Irish culture.
A first field visit was realized by Ben DeJarnatt and Thomas Walter at La Palma early April to study the expressions of hydrothermal alteration. Look at the crater rims of Tajogaite!
From 15.-19. April 2024 a stunning 19,700 participants were at the EGU! We presented the RottnRock project in talks and posters, many young scientists approached and showed interest joining our team.
presented by Claire at VMSG 2024 in Bristol! Thrilled at the interest in the project! Get in touch for more details!
Celebrating the start of the RR project in a small round
Val is presenting the idea and his contribution to the RnR project, showcase is the Merapi volcano.
RnR is in many news even before it started! Here a release from Helmholtz (GFZ)
